Morrell School
Bridges International Development African missions (Meru, Kenya)
The Morell School of Ministry, Evangelism, and Discipleship trains local pastors who already pastor a church but are in need of in depth education in theology, discipleship, leadership, counseling, and teaching. These pastors have little education and very little income. They are selected for the two year training program on the basis of their need and dedication to proclaim God’s word and live committed to Him. The curriculum is based on the Bible Training Centre for Pastors (BTCP) series of ten books. The pastors come to the Bridges International Development, Inc. training center in Meru, Kenya where they are taught, housed and fed for one week each month for two years. School is not in session during August and December, thus 20 sessions are taught over the two year period.
Pastor Jackson Karangu is the instructor and he has taught this curriculum for more than 5 years. In 2007 there were 64 pastors who completed the two year training and graduated. In 2008 a new class of 38 more pastors started their training. Pastor Jackson is assisted when needed by Pastor Shadrack Kirema, another experienced pastor/teacher.
The Morell School at Bridges is primarily funded by the Weddington United Methodist Church of Weddington, North Carolina. Reverend Keith Lowder of the Weddington Church taught at the Morell School for one week in October, 2008.
Pastor Jackson reports that, “All the pastors from the classes are very grateful to the Lord for the far they have gone. They have sincerely believed and seen it practically that God makes a way where there seems to be no way. They feel greatly honoured for the support they been offered at Bridges International Development.”
